Meet the Winners

Tahara Reynolds is committed to organizing and inspiring community action that leads to improved community health in low income communities. Tahara has been involved in two of the most important community driven health initiatives in California.

First, she educated and engaged Stockton residents about the negative impacts of consuming sugary sweetened beverages. Her work on this initiative involved collecting thousands of health surveys and bringing the findings to the Stockton Mayor and City Council. As a result, Tahara is working with a local coalition to urge the consideration of a soda tax. Second, Tahara successfully promoted a ban on the sale of menthol cigarettes and tobacco products targeting youth and communities of color. Tahara’s coalition was instrumental in the passage of Proposition E, which upholds a decision to restrict the sale of menthol cigarettes and candy-flavored tobacco products.

Tahara is a graduate of the TOLA organizing academy and works to engage young people in all levels of the political process.
