David Celedon is dedicated to dismantling the school to prison-to-deportation pipeline and offering guidance in the journey to self-healing. He primarily works with Resilience Orange County to build youth-oriented institutions while promoting healing, trauma-informed, and culturally relevant practices. In addition, David works alongside Project Kinship to ensure that youth being released from Juvenile Hall and youth on probation are given proper resources and programing to aid with reentry. David is the first youth of color to be part of the Orange County Juvenile Justice Commission, where he has tracked policies that continue to criminalize youth of color through the Orange County Sheriff’s department. As a Juvenile Justice Youth commissioner, David visits all county youth facilities to ensure that regulations are followed and that both facilities and facility workers are up to standard. David has been instrumental and effective in implementing restorative justice practices in Santa Ana Unified School District. Through education efforts and community engagement, over $6 million dollars were won to implement restorative justice efforts in SAUSD, which will expand to 17 schools this year.
